Top 5 Most Disappointing Reads of 2016

Hey Everyone!

How are you all? I haven’t been on here for a couple of weeks which I apologise about. The holiday season is quite busy as you all would know and I was absent across all my social media platforms which sucked. I am back because Christmas is over and I know how free time which feels quite foreign at the moment since I haven’t truly had free time on my hands since the beginning of the year in January.

So, I have a couple of posts which shall be posting in the coming days leading to the new year. I am going to start with the negative post so that I can end the year on a positive note. Today, as you can tell by the title of this post, I am going to talk about my most disappointing reads of 2016. This list does only include books which I completed, otherwise this list might end up being a top 20 or even top 30.

So, I am going to stop rambling like i always do. Here are my top 5 most disappointing reads of 2016.

5. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

This is a very unpopular opinion but I really didn’t like this book and I am really close to dnfing the entire series. There is nothing there that compels me to read the rest of the series. I didn’t really like the characters and I didn’t connect to them in any way. I found the plot to be boring. I do feel that had the series been under-hyped, I might have enjoyed the book more but I had such high expectations and they fell short by quite a bit.

4. Harry Potter and The Cursed Child by John Tiffany, Jack Thorne, J.K. Rowling

This may be another unpopular opinion but this post is going to be full of them in all honesty. I did actually enjoy this book but it was a disappointment in terms to the original series. I am sure that I would enjoy it more if I saw the play but the book fell short for me. There were so many plot holes and events which occurred which I refuse to accept as canon. I was able to enjoy it though by separating this book from the original series though.

3. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Unpopular opinion number 3. This book has such a huge hype surrounding it and trust me when I say that I was really disappointed. I wanted to enjoy this book so much but I found the main character Cath, to be infuriating. Seriously, I could write an essay on why she bothered me. I also found the fan fiction part to be boring which didn’t help with my enjoyment of the book since it is featured at the end of every single chapter!  I’m hoping that Rainbows other book Eleanor and Park will be an improvement.

2. The Crown by Kiera Cass

Okay, so I feel like this won’t be an unpopular opinion since I haven’t heard a single good thing about this book from other people. Once again, I could write an 1000 word essay on why I didn’t like this book but I will say two thing, 1. You can read my review of the book HERE if you want to know my exact thoughts and 2. This book shouldn’t have been written. Harsh? Probably, but it should have stayed a trilogy. These books aren’t the best, in fact I can say that they aren’t really that good but they are my guilty pleasure books. The last two books kind of ruined the series for me. I usually like to accept that it’s a trilogy.

1.  The Leaving by Tara Altebrando

The Leaving was by far my most disappointing read of 2016. It had such a good premise and it had such good potential but it fell flat. The characters were written so poorly and the plot, while done okay, was so predictable. Usually I don’t have an issue with this but it was a mystery book! If you want, you can read my review HERE. Other than that, all I can really say is that I do not recommend this book at all.

So, that was my most disappointing reads from 2016. Thank you so much for reading this post. I promise that I will be back with a happier post which will include my top 10 favourite books from 2016.

Let me know what books disappointed you this year. Do we share the same ones? Do you have any other ones. Feel free to comment below because I would love to have a discussion with you all.

Have a wonderful day and I shall talk to you all later.

Aww too bad that you didn’t enjoy City of Bones – there is a fair amount of hype surrounding that book though. I agree the Cursed Child was such a disappointment especially comparing it to the original series. I mostly only read The Crown for closure but I found it so rushed and I wasn’t really a fan of the last 2 books either.

I’m glad I am not the only the only one who thought that the Cursed Child was a disappointment. I am planning on finishing the series (hopefully) in 2017. I’ve heard that the series gets better after the third book. I have no idea if that is true but I am hoping that it’s true.
