From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Wrath and the Dawn, comes a sweeping, action-packed YA adventure set against the backdrop of Feudal Japan where Mulan meets Tamora Pierce.

The daughter of a prominent samurai, Mariko has long known her place—she may be an accomplished alchemist, whose cunning rivals that of her brother Kenshin, but because she is not a boy, her future has always been out of her hands. At just seventeen years old, Mariko is promised to Minamoto Raiden, the son of the emperor’s favorite consort—a political marriage that will elevate her family’s standing. But en route to the imperial city of Inako, Mariko narrowly escapes a bloody ambush by a dangerous gang of bandits known as the Black Clan, who she learns has been hired to kill her before she reaches the palace.

Dressed as a peasant boy, Mariko sets out to infiltrate the ranks of the Black Clan, determined to track down the person responsible for the target on her back. But she’s quickly captured and taken to the Black Clan’s secret hideout, where she meets their leader, the rebel ronin Takeda Ranmaru, and his second-in-command, his best friend Okami. Still believing her to be a boy, Ranmaru and Okami eventually warm to Mariko, impressed by her intellect and ingenuity. As Mariko gets closer to the Black Clan, she uncovers a dark history of secrets, of betrayal and murder, which will force her to question everything she’s ever known.

Life Updates: School, Reading and More!

Hey Everyone!

I’m currently in the middle of my exams and I just finished my study for the today. I’m currently watching a movie which is horrible since I am watching Percy Jackson and The Sea of Monsters but hey, it’s distracting me from being anxious. It’s horribly cringey to watch.

So, while I’m watching this horrible movie (never watch it if you haven’t already), I thought that I would give you all a little update on what has been happening over the past couple of weeks. I have been pretty absent on nearly all my social media accounts since around the 2nd of November due to exam study. While it sucks that I haven’t been able to post, it is worthwhile because so far, I’m doing well with my exams (I think).

I was thinking about this blog once my exam had finished and I was going to write this post on Thursday when I was going to have a break from studying for that day since I wouldn’t have another exam until next Tuesday but I thought now would be a good time.

So, I’m starting to ramble like always so I am going to stop talking and get onto the little updates.

1) School:

So, as you would all know since you have read the beginning of this post, I am currently in the dreaded season of end of year exams. Since I am in grade 11, many of you are probably wondering why they are so important as grade 12 exams. The annoying part about where I live is that in grade 11 and 12, you get points from your exams which somehow turn into a university entrance score at the end of grade 12 (I have no idea on how they do it). To say the least, these exams are really important if I want to be able to get into the university courses that I would like. I’m also going into one of my exams on the highest mark that you can get and I’m going into my other two exams on the second highest score. As someone who has always been a C student who got the occasional B, this is honestly unbelievable and I really want to do well.

I had an exam earlier today which I think went well. I have another on Wednesday morning and then one next week on Tuesday afternoon. I am quite nervous about these two since I have been doing well internally. Wish me good luck because I will need it.

2) Reading:

As I am currently in the middle of exams, I would think that my reading would be impacted. Luckily this is not the case thanks to the wonderful creation of audio-books. I am currently re-reading all the Percy Jackson books and so far I have read seven this month.

You probably are thinking, how are you listening to audio-books when your supposed to be studying. Maybe you’re not asking that. Well, I’m going to tell you anyway. My brain works in  way that I either need dead silence or large amounts of noise which I have control over. Whenever I am studying, I like to listen to something, usually music. However, lately I have began listening to audio-books while studying and surprisingly, I have been able to take the audio-book in while studying at the same time.

I’m not sure how many of you count this as reading a book. I didn’t count audio-books as books until recently but I definitely feel as they should be counted. Comment below on whether you think audio-books should be counted as an actual read book.

3) What will be happening next?

Onto the last and most exciting part of this post in my opinion. What is going to be happening next on this blog?

Well, firstly and sadly, I will be inactive up until the 25th of November. I am going to be super busy up until that day. Why you may or may not ask. Well, I will be doing the last-minute preparations for my 18th birthday! On that day, I will be posting a special post which I am not certain what it will be exactly. It might be a book tag or something else. I will however be hosting a small give-away on here and on my instagram account @capitolbooks. They won’t be huge give-aways since I don’t have a lot of money but I really want to give something to all you guys since you have all been so wonderful and amazing.

After this, all I can really say is that I will a lot more active. I will hopefully have a review up at the end of each week since I do have a big pile of review books which need to be read. I will also have a couple of author interviews from some exciting authors such as Elise Kova who is the author of the soon to be released The Alchemists of Loom.

So, that is all that I have planned for my blog at this current moment. I will be hopefully doing another post like this in the coming months so stay tuned for that! 🙂

That is all that I have to say today. Thank you so much for reading this post and for sticking it out until the end. If you did, you would know about the little surprise that I have in store for next week. If you haven’t read it yet for some reason, I definitely recommend that you check that out because even though it will be small, you don’t want to miss it, especially to my Australian followers.

I hope that you all have a wonderful week. I shall talk to you all next week when I post my special surprise 🙂 I apologise if this post is a bit all over the place. I began writing it about an hour ago and usually I will leave a post for a couple of days before proof reading it but I really want to get this post out to all of you so I apologise to you all in advance if there are a heap of errors in this post.

Title: The Alchemists Loom 31549513

Author: Elise Kova

Publisher: Keymaster Press

Publication Date: 10th of January 2017

Her vengeance. His vision.

Ari lost everything she once loved when the Five Guilds’ resistance fell to the Dragon King. Now, she uses her unparalleled gift for clockwork machinery in tandem with notoriously unscrupulous morals to contribute to a thriving underground organ market. There isn’t a place on Loom that is secure from the engineer turned thief, and her magical talents are sold to the highest bidder as long as the job defies their Dragon oppressors.

Cvareh would do anything to see his sister usurp the Dragon King and sit on the throne. His family’s house has endured the shame of being the lowest rung in the Dragons’ society for far too long. The Alchemist Guild, down on Loom, may just hold the key to putting his kin in power, if Cvareh can get to them before the Dragon King’s assassins.

When Ari stumbles upon a wounded Cvareh, she sees an opportunity to slaughter an enemy and make a profit off his corpse. But the Dragon sees an opportunity to navigate Loom with the best person to get him where he wants to go.

He offers her the one thing Ari can’t refuse: A wish of her greatest desire, if she brings him to the Alchemists of Loom.
